How Lighting Affects Photography

One very important aspect of photography is the lighting. There has been too much emphasis on equipments with regards to taking photos. Or there is a lot of information going on with regards to other techniques for taking wonderful pictures. But nothing is as crucial as determining how the light affects the photographs you take. So in this article we are going to take a look how big a factor light is in making or breaking your photos.

First and foremost there is lighting termed hard light. This is the light that comes directly from the sun when it is not obscured. What this type of lighting produces are either very bright parts of the photos. Or it can produce very dark images or spots on some parts of the photos.

This is very crucial especially when taking photos during weddings. Because one bad lighting can ruin many pictures. Understanding this has helped me in my wedding photographer service.

Next there is a type of lighting that they call soft light. This usually occurs during cloudy days and are usually smooth without too much shadows. You can utilize this type of lighting to your great advantage to produce high quality photos. The main factor for such is it allows the colors to be vibrant and be seen on film. This works very well for commercial type of photos similar to the clients I have worked for in my commercial photographer service.

Finally, you can take advantage of artificial lighting to shoot your photos. This is the lighting such as the lights you would use in a photo studio. This is fine for taking those family portraits because you have the power to control how the lighting will affect your picture. This has served my well in my event photography service.

As you have read, the role of lighting in photography can either enhance or ruin your picture. If you understand and utilize it to your advantage, without a doubt you will produce quality photos.
