GPS Locators - Avoid that Serious Game of Hide and Seek
There is nothing more exhilarating than a day-long hike in the wilderness. Sometimes though there are unforeseen events. Injuries can happen, or the hardest event for any of us to admit: getting lost.
Nowadays there are many GPS locators that can turn an unfortunate situation back into “just a little twist in the adventure”. These small personal GPS units are dropping in cost, and size.
Whether you are trekking by SUV or bike through the forest service roads for a weekend camping trip, or taking that day-trip or overnight hike up your favorite mountain, carrying a GPS locator can flip the switch between a great trip and a tragedy. Remember to plan a check-in point, some time you are expected to return, and someone in the “real world” who is waiting for your call. In the event of an emergency you are likely to be unable to communicate, and that person can notify search and rescue to begin a search.
