Make Your Camping Trip A Success
When you are planning on going on a camping trip you definitely need to make sure that you have planned ahead of time. Forgetting just one essential item can certainly make or break a time outdoors with the tress and elements.
Now, what if you do not know exactly what to bring with you? Maybe you are more used to going to motels and hotels and camping is still fairly new to you. Well, here is a good list to start from and make yourself prepared for the fun that you will have in the great outdoors.
The first thing to remember to include is a good tent for a decent night’s sleep. This will not only provide you with some shelter, it will also make a place for you to store some of your other stuff to keep it dry in case it rains.
One rewarding experience when camping is cooking and enjoying different camp foods. There are many different types of camping stoves that are easy to transport and set up. Make sure you bring the food along too and plenty of water!
Sometimes, you may want to bring an air mattress or some kind of camping bed with you to make sleeping more comfortable. There are also folding portable beds that can be bought at fairly reasonable prices.
For times when you may find yourself injured, make sure to be prepared with a good first aid kit that is equipped with all the essentials. You never know when you might need it.
Finally, other little small things like candles, matches, flashlights, a knife, rope, a tarp and other things is always a good idea too. Any small item that you can think of that you might need can be easily put into a small kit to bring with you on every camping trip.
Enjoy camping!
Making Carp Fishing Baits Like Magnets By Exploiting Fish Senses!
Hey get this; if you treat your fish like swimming tongues by exploiting what stimulates their specialised taste and smell cells in as many potent ways as possible; you will do very well indeed! This seems to be a little knew too many carp anglers who are often tunnel-visioned; just thinking of what they themselves prefer thinking as an angler, and not truly about what fish often senses prefer far more! It is obvious that what is dissolved in the water from your bait triggers responses of many kinds in fish, but how do you begin truly maximising these responses using bait; let’s see…
Carp and catfish often live in the same waters and are targeted by anglers fishing in similar ways for each so I’ll place these together. A good reason to use catfish and carp together as examples of tongues that swim is the sheer number of physical similarities in substance detection and also their shared quite similar essential nutritional needs that often means the same bait design can catch both; and very big ones too! Many anglers know little about the specifically adapted cells in and outside of fish that enable them to detect substances in water on a chemical level even down to a few parts in a million or even billion, and this is one of the most powerful aspects of fish we can exploit with our baits to make them far easier to catch!
I always laugh when I see someone sniffing a bottle of flavour, or tasting a bait, because this is really a measure of personal preference, rather that scientific testing of how a substance actually triggers feeding intensity or not in water, plus our senses are dulled compared to fishes by a gigantic percentage; these are the bloodhounds of the water world! We taste and smell using specially adapted cells in our tongues and noses; these have wet surfaces at all times to enable use to detect substances effectively in air, but fish evolved such cells all over their bodies, as well as internally, so they are like big tongues really. Specialist fish cells are part of many vital sensory input systems are found in various areas of concentration and cell forms; for detection of various substances, and other input information, like water temperature and pressure waves from your lead almost hitting them etc!
Carp find many potential food substances including your baits by using cells adapted for the purpose which are extremely sensitive to essential substances especially, like various combinations of amino acids. The cells that detect very many substances are located externally in the facial skin, areas of the head and flanks, the lips, fins, in the nose, the barbels, in the mouth, throat and other lesser known significant areas too! The so-called receptor cells are very sensitive and so can detect oils in water not supposedly water soluble, however, even these are to a small degree and using lecithins with oils obviously improves their detectability and attraction!
The smelling and tasting of chemical substances (and their changes) in water are well known in the various internal and external detection systems known as olfaction and chemoreception, and these are very complex, extremely highly evolved and sensitive to the presence of many natural substances and their copies etc and involves the utilisation and input of the lateral line too. This line extends from the tail to the mouth and composes of special pits and cells gathering vital information from the aquatic environment. The lateral line is very significant in bait detection (and it can be specially exploited,) and its nerves and structure have been essential for carp and other species survival for millions of years!
The potential food, opportunities and predator detection systems in carp and other fish represent a multipurpose aquatic scanner which we would be very short-sighted not to exploit using our baits for maximum effect! Knowing more about the sensitive systems of fish such as carp, can help us locate them in the water, and concentrations of carbonic acid or ammonia for example can lead to fish being located and feeding in one swim more than in others through different temperatures and seasons for example. The highly adapted cells in carp and other fish will often detect things humans cannot detect and often carp will appear to behave appropriately in advance of certain changing weather patterns, changing air pressures and temperature changes etc, and water density and pressure changes may be involved more than we might think.
Carp and catfish have barbels; the highly sensitive projections around the mouth that in one role, help them find food and these have some of the highest densities of cells adapted for receiving chemical feedback from the water in solution. Your bait substances imbibe water or dissolve in water to form solutions. These substances have a highest concentration nearest their source and this gets weaker as you travel away from it.
Fish will track-down your bait by following the concentration gradients of substances leaching outwards from your baits. Making the most of bait produced concentration gradients in many ways really gives you the edge, and making your own baits and ground baits, and being able to adapt ready made ones for this purpose especially is such a massive edge! A bait packed with many of the essential dietary requirements of carp will give carp far more reason to pick-up your bait and actually consume it compared to many baits with much less vital reasons on offer, and you can boost this effect in many extremely potent ways in your homemade baits and ground baits or in any ready made boilies, pellets, particle baits etc…
This kind of bait exploitation of vital fish senses approach can even give your own adapted or homemade baits greater advantages over other anglers competing baits. So as you can appreciate, it will certainly pay you to find out more!

Carp Fishing Bait Secrets Of Using Robin Red!
Robin Red is probably the best known successful carp attractor throughout the world and to many anglers, what it is and how it works is a mystery because its full recipe is top secret, but you can get very useful clues on what it is, how it works and how to use it here; so read on…
Although Robin Red is the original formula from Haiths in the UK, it is also sold through so many fishing bait companies around the world it is quite staggering and sometimes copies are made (but then how do you make a copy when the actual formula has never been released?) Among Haiths famous products applied to or designed for carp fishing as opposed to just bird raising are these: Robin Red, Red Factor, Prosecto Insectivorous, Nectarblend, Red Band, Carpticle Mix, Super Red, Hempseed, Soft bill, and Multi Mix. Anglers have been involved in the designing of some of these products to help fellow anglers really get the best from them as baits and in baits with good mutually beneficial reasons; Rod Hutchinson is one such leading light.
Among such bird food products Robin Red is the best known and is literally a legend when it comes to carp bait ingredients and additives etc today. Hinders offer other bird foods which have also been integral in the success and universal use of bird food based carp baits throughout the world today. Countless modern carp bait companies have taken hinders and Rod Hutchinsons leads for example and formulated their own commercial bird food based baits ranges and now additives and liquids etc based around robin red and chilli for instance are extremely fashionable and successfully proven; such as the Ccmoore Red Venom additive.
Robin Red has been used by most commercial bait companies at some time or another and is so prevalent that in some cases it might be your unique homemade bait perhaps is the only boilie bait that does not contain it on your water! Beware that any successful ingredient, additive or flavour etc, when over-used, can conversely act as a marker for danger and it might be a bonus to use very little of it in your bait sometimes. You might choose to use a component of it instead, perhaps just the red chilli peppers part instead, or add these to boost a proportion of Robin Red perhaps for a winter and spring bait.
Uses and methods of application of robin Red are many, and it can be added to boilie and pellets base mixes, ground baits of all forms (and clouds water and dyes your dyes fingers red! Try dampening Robin Red with PVA-friendly liquids such as the excellent Ccmoore Red Venom, (which is absolutely ideal for the job,) and contains certain very concentrated levels of similar Robin Red bioactive components! Robin Red used in solution (with water added) produces a good bait soak for boilies, pellets and as liquid boosts for ground baits and maggots etc; although this watered-down version is not as intensely stimulating as Red Venom which as a concentrated product is most excellent for summer conditions and winter especially.
So exactly what is Robin Red; after all it certainly colours up the water attractively and even stains your hands a distinctive red?! The recipe of Robin Red is shrouded in mystery, controversy and endless speculation, and perhaps all you can say for certain, is that is does not contain Carophyll Red, (but this does not exclude it containing cantaxanthin perhaps…) Robin Red certainly does contain many bioactive components and substances, including antioxidant pigments (plumage colour enhancing agents highly stimulatory to carp!)
Why not save yourself a fortune in bait costs and try making your own homemade baits for the first time using a mix of semolina, soya flour with added robin red? Try boosting your pellets by just adding water and adding neat robin red and mixing thoroughly; this will cloud the water very red too, (wash your red hands after use!) One easy to use product incorporating Robin Red is Haiths super Red which can be used neat in PVA products and contains the following:
Super Red has aniseed oil, teasel seeds, crushed Carpticle mix, crushed hempseed, Red Factor, robin Red, peanut granules and crushed tiger nuts. This combination is only one of countless others you could try in making your own boilies, pellets and ground baits and to maximise this and more and to save yourself an fortune in bait costs why not now read on…

A Little on the Love of Camping
Every summer numerous households take to the road with their tents or RVs and camping out gear to go and discover nature. Why is camping out so attractive in a society that is so focused on scientific progress?
One of the most manifest answers to this question is that camping out is a traditional national pastime. For years youngsters have grown up going camping every year and they have great fun. There are a lot of households that have their reunions every year at camping sites all of the world. Camping out can be great fantastic for kids and kids at heart. A camping excursion is an excellent time for fathers to bond with their sons.
You can’t recall what you had for lunch at work yesterday but you will have many outstanding memories of your first camping out trip. It is the memory of looking up into the night sky, absolutely dark, which stays with us. Camping out gets rid of the distractions of daily living and allows families to focus on their relationships with each other.
Parents can share stories of the past with their kids while gathered around a campfire, along with thoughts on life in general. It is normal that when camping out plays such a strong role in one generation’s lives that they share it with next, hence the custom of camping gets passed down through the years. As life progresses, new sciences come, new ways and trends emerge that keep children enthralled, the one thing that stays constant is nature. It is on this popular ground while camping out that households can come together and relate to each other in a way that just isn’t possible at home.
Another reason why people love camping out so much is because there is a part of the human spirit that pines to get back to nature. This is something in our souls that only nature can fulfil, no matter how successful we are in the workaday world. Camping out is a way to relate with a part of ourselves that gets lost in the busy city. There is a certain since of belonging in nature that is special to camping out. Canopies are Great Additions To Tents!
The best addition you could add to your camping equipment is the canopy tent. The canopy tent gives you protection and shelter from the elements of nature. There are two styles of canopy tent, a canopy with no sides, just a top, and a canopy with screened sides also known as screen house or screen tent.
Tents with open sided canopies are great for table cover or perhaps as a cook station. This is especially convenient on rainy days and allows cooking and dining out of the rain. These tents (canopy) are free standing, making them versatile to any location of your choice.
There are no restrictions for a canopy tent such as a camping site. They can be used as a backyard camper, the beach, the park or wherever you find you may need shelter. These tents are also great for social events held outdoors.
Canopy tents or screen tents are a must if your adventures take you to places which are bug or insect infested especially if the infestation is our of control. Pesky bugs can be problematic and take away any enjoyment you may be having out of your trip.
Screen tents are made in 2 styles, one that has a floor just like your tent and the other just has screened walls with no floor. Both are adequate for protecting you from those pesky bugs. Its just personal preference for the one you choose.
A screen tent makes a good place for storage. This allows you the benefit of more room for you in your tent for relaxing or sleeping. These tents come in ten by ten feet or twelve by twelve feet. Allowing you an additional 100/144 square feet of sheltered area.
The screen tent and canopy tent are both, portable, lightweight and very simple to set-up. Depending on the style and shape you buy, it will require only one or two people to set-up. Set-up can be done in as little as 5 minutes.
However you may enjoy your activities and adventures outdoors by adding a screen and or a canopy tent will only enhance your adventures that much more. You will have protection from natures elements and little creatures, allowing you to enjoy more of your trip. Relaxing and sleeping in more comfort sheltered from the elements. You may even find that you like to go on these outdoor trips more often.

A Novice’s Guide to Carp Fishing Equipment
Carp fishing is a popular hobby that has a long tradition in Europe, and is growing in the States, as well. Carp are known to thrive in almost any type of water, making them an easy to find and attractive fish to angle for. All fishermen know that no matter what you’re chasing, good angling gear is needed.
One of the most important parts of getting good gear is obviously the fishing rod. A good carp rod will be medium action, and long – generally at least six feet long, although longer can be better. This gives the strength and flexibility needed for carp fishing.
When you’re considering fishing rods, obviously you also need to consider reels. Open faced reels should also be the only type you consider, although this is true of almost any good fishing rod. In addition, you want the reel to be large enough to hold at least 150 yards 12 pound test line.
Finding the right bait is important with any type of fish. Carp aren’t picky eaters, but some bait is going to work better than others. While many bass anglers love rapalas, the best tackle for carp is actually sticky and smelly bait. There are many specialty carp baits available, so test around and see what the carp in your area like best.
More advanced carpers will often use racks with several rods, or “pods,” and set them all up with bait and wait for any carp to show. These rod holders can be very expensive, but also free up the hands for anglers who don’t mind catching up on a good book while waiting for the trophy carp to show.
And of course there’s the all important fishing line. Kevlar fishing line is a popular choice among any anglers, although in the end the main concern is getting fishing line that is 12 pound test or better.
While advanced fishing tackle and gear is going to cost more, the good news is that beginners can get started for pretty cheap. While fishing might not be the least expensive of hobbies, learning to carp fish is a deeply rewarding hobby that provides hours more entertainment than a movie or night out to an expensive bar.
These are some of the basic things you will want to look at when looking at some beginner’s gear for carp fishing. Follow the guidelines in this article and you will be looking at some serious success carping in no time.

Can I Pack a Bowie Knife in My Suitcase When Flying?
Carrying weapons aboard a plane is a big no-no, isn’t it? If you’re the proud owner of a bowie knife, you might think that there’s no possible way that you’d ever be allowed to carry that knife on a plane. However, while you’re right, you’re wrong at the same time. You can take your bowie knife with you when you fly, but you have to follow some pretty specific guidelines. What’s the system you have to follow? What do you need to do?
The answer to that question is “yes and no.” How can that be? First, you have to understand the difference between carryon and checked baggage. For instance, any carryon bag must be sent through a metal detector, before you are allowed to board a plane with it. In addition, any item within that bag will be within easy reach during the flight. Therefore, you cannot carry your bowie knife in your carryon luggage.
However, the news is not all bad. The TSA does allow you to carry a bowie knife with you if it is packed in your suitcase, so long as that suitcase is checked at the ticket counter and is not a carryon item. Of course, there are a couple of further caveats to this, as well. Your knife must be securely packed, sheathed and safe. It cannot be left loose inside your suitcase, nor can you pack it without its sheath. Interestingly, the same rules apply to swords, razors and other knives. If this seems a bit inconvenient, remember, you shouldn’t have any need for your knife during the flight, so packing it away before hand should be no issue.
Second, bowie knives must be secured within their sheath. A strap holding the blade within the sheath will suffice. However, if your sheath is not so equipped, you can opt to wrap your knife in cloth, bubble wrap or some other material. In fact, the more heavily packed your knife is, the better the chance that it will arrive at your destination.
Carrying your bowie knife with you is more convenient than you might think, but it will necessitate that you plan ahead and prepare for any contingencies that might arise. That said, with a bit of forethought, you can arrive at your destination and have your bowie knife with you at the same time, which is better than many travelers assume.

How to Sharpen a Bowie Knife
If you own a Bowie knife, you’ll certainly want to know how to sharpen that blade. While Bowie knives are certainly larger than most other types of knife, sharpening them is really not very different. In fact, you will be able to use the same whetstone as you use for many other types of blades.
However, because Bowie knives are quite large, you might find that many of the all-in-one sharpening systems are not ideal for use. In fact, your knife might not even fit the slots of these gadgets. That said, you can find all-in-one solutions for larger blades, you just have to look a little harder.
How do you sharpen Bowie knives? First, you’ll need to purchase a whetstone (or the aforementioned all-in-one system). The size of the stone is actually up to you. However, you will need to make sure that it is comfortable in your hand. You will also need to determine what sort of lubricant to use. Some knife owners prefer to use oil, while others prefer water only. Some knife owners actually don’t use any type of lubricant, but clean the stone between each sharpening with either an abrasive cleaner or a strong chemical cleanser (this will depend on whether you choose a synthetic whetstone or one made of real stone).
Holding one side of the blade against the stone, draw the knife either heel to tip, or you can grind it in circles over the stone (some knife owners prefer to use two stones, a coarse one and a fine one). Once you have raised a burr on the blade’s edge, you should flip the blade over and repeat the process until there is a burr along the entire edge of the knife blade.
Once you have ground down one side of the blade and raised a burr, you will need to flip the knife over and grind the other side. This will raise a burr all the way down the blade (including the tip of the blade). Once the burr has been raised, you should use a fine whetstone or a strop to remove the burr and reveal the true edge of the blade. Further stropping or honing will polish the edges, as well.
